The 60-hour Ed.D. in Bilingual, ESL, Dual Language Education (Online) is a 60-hour online interdisciplinary program designed for scholar-practitioners.
The educational objectives of the proposed program are:
(a) to improve the quality of education of emergent bilingual students for the 21st century workforce in Pre-Kindergarten-12 schools and agencies; and,
(b) to lead, develop and evaluate research-based programs, curriculum and instruction for educators of emergent bilingual students.
A combination of coursework, practica and the final Record of Study (ROS) ensure a broad breadth and depth of training.

Program admissions requirements. The BESL Division’s Doctoral Admissions Committee uses a standard rubric to assess the applicant’s attributes and qualifications for successfully completing the EdD.
These include:
• Evidence of two (2) years of successful teaching experience in school settings with emergent bilingual students.
• Evidence of leadership aspirations in working with preservice and in-service teachers in school settings within areas of bilingual education.
• Evidence of leadership qualities.
• Evidence of a career choice appropriate for the degree’s emphasis on teacher leadership in school settings with emergent bilingual students.
• Evidence of writing proficiency (e.g., focus, content, style/organizations, and mechanics/format)
• Evidence of effective communication skills
• Evidence of academic potential GPA >3.0
